Beginning October 1, 2026, North Carolina will no longer automatically issue printed vehicle registration cards or license plate renewal stickers.
If you completed your renewal but did not receive these items, this may be part of the transition to digital registration and does not necessarily mean your registration is invalid.
What should I do?
Use NCDMV’s online services to verify your registration status: Visit MyDMV.
For help accessing a registration copy, contact NCDMV at 919-715-7000 or visit an NCDMV license plate agency.
Can Wake County provide my registration?
No. Wake County Tax Administration does not issue or replace registration cards, stickers, license plates, or titles.
Wake County can help with the property tax portion of your vehicle bill, including questions about the appraised value, taxing jurisdiction, appeals, and qualifying tax adjustments.
