North Carolina Digital Vehicle Registration: What Changes on October 1, 2026?
Beginning October 1, 2026, NCDMV will transition to digital vehicle registration. Printed registration cards and license plate renewal stickers will no longer be automatically issued with vehicle renewals.
What will change?
- Registration information will be stored electronically.
- A printed registration card will not be automatically mailed.
- A renewal sticker will not be issued for the license plate.
What will not change?
Vehicle owners must still:
- Renew their registration annually.
- Pay registration fees and vehicle property taxes.
- Complete required inspections.
- Maintain required insurance.
Meet all other NCDMV registration requirements.
