Business Property - Are there any other taxes business owners should know about?
Hotels, restaurants, bars, and rental car/heavy equipment business owners may have to pay gross receipts tax.
This tax is collected from the customer as part of the transaction and remitted to Wake County Tax Administration on a monthly or quarterly basis. Businesses that prepare food or beverages, sell or serve alcohol, rent vehicles or heavy equipment, or provide lodging or room rentals, must collect and remit this tax. If a business serves or sells malt beverages or wine, they will also need a license that’s renewed every year.
Gross receipts taxes can be filed and paid online or by mail.
Go to wake.gov/grossreceipts or contact the gross receipts team by submitting an online request form at https://wake.gov/grhelp or 919-856-5999.
