How and when can I appeal my real estate value? What is the deadline to appeal?
Property owners receiving notices of value in 2026 because of new construction or renovations may submit a request for a formal appeal to the Board of Equalization and Review. This may be filed via email, or submissions may also be hand-delivered. Please be sure to keep a copy for your records.
Formal appeals may be submitted online, by mail, or in person beginning January 1. The deadline to submit an appeal is set by the Board of Equalization & Review (BOER).
For changes in assessed value as a result of the 2027 revaluation, if you agree with your new value, no action is needed. However, all property owners will have the right to appeal the appraised value of their property to the Wake County Board of Equalization and Review. In January 2027, more information about how to appeal and a link to the County’s property tax portal will be available at wake.gov/revaluation.
