Property values are determined through the appraisal process, but property tax rates are established as part of the annual budget adopted by county and municipal officials. Adopted property tax rates cannot be lawfully considered when reviewing the assessed value for adjustments and will not affect the county’s value of the property.
The Wake County Board of Commissioners holds budget sessions in May and June before adopting the budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1. If you also live within city/town limits, check with your municipality about its budget schedule. Information regarding the most recent adopted budgets for the County and its municipalities may also be found at wake.gov/mytaxdollar.
